Conical when young, later becoming broadly columnar.

Female forms will produce seed but only if they are crushed will they produce an unpleasant pungent smell.

The bark is dull grey, ridged and fissured. Fan shaped bright green leaves, yellow in autumn. Needs well drained soil and shelter from cold winds.
